A Message from WHCF President, Tom Obey
Dear Listeners and Supporters:
This month’s letter contains a very special message. August 10th is WHCF’s 37th birthday. We came on the air back in 1981 and have broadcast 24 hours a day for 37 years now. WHCF was the first Christian Radio Station in the state. It operated at 11,000 watts on top of Black Cap Mountain. We now air at 100,000 watts on top of Passadumkeag Mountain. It is hard to believe we air 1440 minutes every day or 525,600 minutes every year.
I would like to make this year very special. Please continue reading…
Not only does it take a ‘great staff’ to produce all the programming, our transmitter has to run efficiently every second, year after year. Music and programming are aired on Broadway in Bangor and then go to the microwave outside our studio, travels through the air to Passadumkeag Mountain and then gets transmitted by our transmitter to our 580 foot tower and over the airways to you who faithfully listen every day. Isn’t that incredible?! So, understandably, the transmitter is old and will need replacing sometime in the future. The replacement cost of the transmitter is over $70,000. I would like to be prepared when that happens.
Here is my proposal: when our friends and family have a birthday we buy a gift, right? I am asking that you and I give a gift to the future listeners of WHCF. Will you give an extra gift of $37 ($1 per year of operating) to WHCF this month? If our 2000 listeners each give the $37, that would be $74,000. This would be an incredible birthday gift.
Will you consider it? Will you be a part of it? Please consider increasing this month’s gift by $37. This is an extra gift!! I am asking you to pray about it, and if you can, sit down right now to write your check. Our birthday is Friday, August 10th. Please flood our mailbox with thirty-seven dollar checks designated to this birthday gift.
Let the party begin…
